In Closing

Platypus Press will cease trading in May 2023.

This decision has been difficult for both of us and comes after many months of discussion. Ultimately, with the continual changes to our day-to-day lives and the physical and emotional drain running an independent press entails, we feel this action is necessary.

Across eight years – and as a team of just two – we have edited, designed and published thirty-nine books, thirty-three digital shorts, and twenty-four digital chapbooks (as well as thirty issues of our online literary journal Wildness). We are immensely proud of the work we’ve released, and it’s a testament to the calibre of the writers we’ve worked with that so many have subsequently been recognised. We are grateful to have been even a minimal part of their literary journey. Our thanks goes to every writer we’ve had the privilege of working with.

Until May 1st, all remaining copies of our books will be available at heavily discounted prices. After this, the book’s rights will return to the authors. Should any publisher be interested in acquiring these rights, you can contact us, and we’ll put you in touch with the individual authors. Likewise, if any UK-based organisations (libraries, community groups, etc.) would like copies of our remaining titles – please let us know.

We intend to continue publishing issues of Wildness, though likely less regularly than we have previously.
